Welsh Bass Sion Goronwy graduated from the University of Wales Aberystwyth with a bachelor’s degree in History, before continuing his study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the International Opera School at the Royal College of Music.

Recent projects include his role and house debut as Astradamors Le Grand Macabre under the baton of chief conductor Leo McFall (Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden); Swallow in a new production of Peter Grimes under the baton of Tomáš Hanus (Welsh National Opera); Snug A Midsummer Night’s Dream conducted by Donato Renzetti (Teatro Carlo Felice Genova & Royal Opera House, Muscat); Swallow in a new Paul Curran production of Peter Grimes conducted by Juraj Valčuha (Teatro La Fenice); and the roles of Groundskeeper & Private Investigator in the world premiere of Last Days (Royal Opera House).

Concert engagements have seen him feature as guest soloist with orchestras including London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Opéra National de Lyon, Kristiansand Symfoniorkester, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House with conductors including Sir Andrew Davis, Kazushi Ono, Vladimir Jurowski, Robin Ticciati, Steuart Bedford, Jonathan Cohen, Leo McFall, Daniel Cohen, Terje Boye Hansen, and Alexander Soddy.
