Luke Sinclair
TENOR
Acclaimed for his "effortless power" (Opernwelt) and "beauty of tone" (Opera Magazine), Luke was born in London and studied at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He went on to join the Opera Studio at the Opéra National de Lyon, and is currently an Ensemble member at the Salzburg Landestheater.

The 24/25 season sees him perform Max Der Freischütz (Felsenreitschule, Salzburg), Lyonel Martha and Amaranto in Salieri's Il mondo alla rovescia (Salzburg Landestheater); and on the concert platform he sings the title role in Handel's Samson (Carl Orff Chor Marktoberdorf/ La Banda), Verdi Requiem and Elgar's Dream of Gerontius (Bayerisches Staatsorchester); Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin alonside Stefan Wolitz (Augsburg, Ulm and Salzburg), and Das Große Silvesterkonzert (Mozarteum Orchestra, Großes Festspielhaus, Salzburg).
His repertoire comprises roles such as the Vaudémont in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, Tamino Die Zauberflöte, title role in Faust, Don José Carmen and Macduff Macbeth. He has also appeared as the title role in Mozart’s Lucio Silla, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, and the Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier (Salzburg Landestheater; Felsenreitschule, Salzburg). Other notable engagements include the title role in Handel's Samson (Augsburg), Herodes in Salome (Le Bâtiment des Forces motrices, Geneva), Duca in Rigoletto, Le Prince Charmant in Cendrillon, Jacquino in Fidelio, Steuermann in Der Fliegende Holländer and Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor (Theater Ulm). He appeared as both Zamoro in Verdi's Alzira (Buxton International Festival), and the title role in the UK premiere of Gounod's Polyeucte (UC Opera). He made his Opéra National de Lyon debut as the Kuli in Der Kreidekreis. For Scottish Opera he has sung Mephistopheles The Fiery Angel and Alfredo La Traviata (Unwrapped). His other roles include The Nameless Singer in the British premiere of Hans Gal's Das Lied der Nacht (Queen's Hall, Edinburgh), Sali (Romeo) in Delius' A Village Romeo and Juliet(Cadogan Hall), Rodolfo in La Bohème (Dresden, Glasgow, and Edinburgh), and Chevalier de la Force in Dialogues des carmélites (Scottish Ballet).
In addition to his operatic engagements, Luke is in high demand across Europe on the concert platform. His performances include Verdi's Requiem with the Bayerisches Staatsorchester in Augsburg, a critically lauded Winterreise in Hans Zender’s orchestral arrangement at the Theater Ulm, Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius at Glasgow's City Halls with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, and Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde (Mahler Players, Eden Court, Inverness). The Apostles at the Edinburgh Festival (Usher Hall), Puccini's Messa di Gloria at Perth Concert Hall, Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Aberdeen Symphony Orchestra, Rossini’s Stabat Mater at Ayr Town Hall, Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Royal Hall, Harrogate, and Handel’s Messiah at Perth Cathedral.
A major prize-winner at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg International Singing Competition, Luke made a significant mark with his performance of the tenor lead in the world premiere of Marc Aurel-Floros' Adriana at the International Opera Festival in Rheinsberg, Germany, earning rave reviews. He was also a Bayreuth Festival Scholarship holder, where he participated in a masterclass with acclaimed Wagnerian bass Günther Groissböck at Haus Wahnfried, Bayreuth.
