Jihoon Son
Tenor
Regarded as a rising star of the operatic stage, tenor Jihoon Son has been praised for his unique vocal agility and thrilling high notes. Born in Seoul, he began his musical studies at the Korean National University of Arts, and later at the Theaterakademie August Everding and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.

Jihoon’s current and future engagements include Leicester Maria Stuarda (Ópera de Oviedo); Count Almaviva Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Theater Magdeburg); and he will cover Arturo I Puritani and Tonio La fille du régiment (Royal Ballet & Opera, Covent Garden); on the concert platform he will perform Tonio La fille de regiment (Korean National Symphony Orchestra); Jaquino Fidelio (Asia Philharmonic Orchestra ); Beethoven 9th Symphony at the Royal Concertgebouw and Kursaal, San Sebastian under the musical direction of Jaap Van Zweden, and as part of an Asian Tour under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung.
Winner of the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition and the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition, Jihoon’s highlights include Lord Arturo I Puritani, Lindoro L’Italiana in Algeri, the Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier, Don Ramiro La Cenerentola, Arnold Guillaume Tell, Beppe Rita, Edgardo Lucia di Lammermoor, Nemorino L’elisir D’amore, Il duca di Mantua Rigoletto, Alfredo La Traviata and Matteo Arabella with companies including Ópera de Oviedo, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Korean National Opera, Prinzregententheater Munich, Mariinsky Theatre, Bolshoi Theatre, Neue Oper Freiburg, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Korean National Symphony Orchestra.
