Jihoon Son
Tenor
Regarded as a rising star of the operatic stage, tenor Jihoon Son has been praised for his unique vocal agility and thrilling high notes. Born in Seoul, he began his musical studies at the Korean National University of Arts, and later at the Theaterakademie August Everding and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.

Jihoon’s current and future engagements include Leicester Maria Stuarda at Ópera de Oviedo; Duca Rigoletto State Opera of South Australia and Korean National Opera; Arnold Guillaume Tell with The Mariinsky, his debut with Seoul Metropolitan Opera; and cover Arturo I Puritani and Tonio La fille du régiment for the Royal Ballet & Opera, Covent Garden.
On the concert platform he will sing Tonio in as semi-staged production of La fille de Regiment with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra; Jaquino in a semi-staged production of Fidelio with the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra; Mozart Requiem and Beethoven 9th Symphony at the Royal Concertgebouw, and the Kursaal in San Sebastián with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Jaap van Zweden; Beethoven 9th Symphony in a tour of Asia with the KBS Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Myung-Whun Chung; and Berlioz Te Deum with Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra under Yoel Levi.
Winner of the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition and the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition, further highlights include Lord Arturo I Puritani, Lindoro L’Italiana in Algeri, Don Ramiro La Cenerentola, Leicester Maria Stuarda, the Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier, Arnold Guillaume Tell, Nemorino L’elisir D’amore, Il duca di Mantua Rigoletto, Alfredo La Traviata and Matteo Arabella with companies including Ópera de Oviedo, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, State Opera of South Australia, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Korean National Opera, Prinzregententheater Munich, Mariinsky Theatre, Bolshoi Theatre, Neue Oper Freiburg, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the Korean National Symphony Orchestra.
