A wonderfully dynamic artist on the operatic stage and concert platform alike, Cleverton’s engagements have taken him to leading companies internationally. Last seasons engagements include the roles of the Protector Written on Skin, Pablo in Thomas Adès The Exterminating Angel, Flemish Deputy Don Carlos, and Beckmesser cover Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden); Bussy in Leoncavallo’s Zazà and White Rabbit Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (Opera Holland Park); Dulcamara L’elisir D’amore (Scottish Opera); and the role of Arrostino in Alfred Cellier’s The Mountebank’s (BBC Concert Orchestra).

Excelling in the field of contemporary music, Cleverton made his début with the Salzburger Festspiele in Alban Berg’s Lulu under the baton of Marc Albrecht, with further notable engagements including La Mettrie in the world première of Keyner Nit by Steinauer (Opernhaus Zürich & Luzern); John Sorel Der Konsul (Opernhaus Zürich); the title role in Schweitzer’s Jakob von Gunten (Theater Saint Gallen). Subsequent roles include J. Robert Oppenheimer in John Adams’ Doctor Atomic conducted by Lawrence Renes, Horemhab in Philip Glass’ Akhnaten, 2nd Apprentice and cover of the title role in Berg’s Wozzeck, First Officer in The Death of Klinghoffer (English National Opera); the cover of 'N' in Rhim’s Dionysus (Salzburger Festspiele & Berlin Staatsoper); the covers of the title role in Berg’s Wozzeck, Johannes in the world première of Morgen und Abend, Stern in the world première of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Anna Nicole, and Theseus The Minotaur (Royal Opera House); White Rabbit in the world première of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (Opera Holland Park & Royal Opera House); 2nd Apprentice Wozzeck (BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra); and Zhou Enlai Nixon in China (RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra/Wide Open Opera).

Previous seasons’ highlights include Count Asdrubale La Pietra del Paragone (Opernhaus Zürich and Opéra de Rennes); Gregorio Roméo et Juliette (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden); Marcello La bohéme & Sharpless Madam Butterfly (Royal Albert Hall); Kyoto Iris (Opera Holland Park); Papageno Die Zauberflöte (Theater Saint Gallen); Ford Falstaff (Grange Park Opera); Commercial Councillor Intermezzo (Garsington Opera); Silvio I Pagliacci (English Touring Opera & Hanoi Opera); the title role in Don Giovanni, and Danilo The Merry Widow (National Concert Hall, Dublin).

On the concert platform he has performed the works of Handel, Haydn, Elgar, Mendelssohn, Orff and Verdi. Engagements have seen him feature as guest soloist with orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra; Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment; English Chamber Orchestra; Scottish Chamber Orchestra; Basel Sinfonietta; Zürcher Kammerorchester; the Swiss Chamber Orchestra; Orchestra of Welsh National Opera; the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the BBC Concert Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.

The 2017/18 sees him make his debut at Buxton International Festival as Gusmano in Verdi’s rarely performed Alzira, and at Welsh National Opera as Frank Die Fledermaus, he also returns to the Royal Opera House. On the concert platform he performs gala concerts at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, Symphony Hall Birmingham, the Royal Albert Hall, and Cadogan Hall. Further ahead he returns to English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera Holland Park, and the Royal Opera House.
