Recipient of Glyndebourne Festival Opera’s John Christie Award, Dutch tenor Peter Gijsbertsen graduated with honors from Utrecht Conservatoire. He continues his studies with teachers Dennis O’Neill and Ira Siff.

Peter Gijsbertsen | 'Et fit lux' | International Vocalists Competition

Operatic repertoire include the roles of Tamino Die Zauberflöte (Opera Oviedo & Opera Vlaanderen); Novice Billy Budd (Bolshoi Theatre, Russia); Acis Acis and Galatea (Opéra de Fribourg); Kaherdin/3rd tenor Le vin herbé (Berlin Staatsoper); The Novice and Maintop Billy Budd, Lucano/Liberto L’incoronazione di Poppea, Der Junge Seemann Tristan and Isolde, and the prinicipal tenor The Fairy Queen (Glyndebourne Festival Opera & New York); Eurimaco/Giove Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria (Oper Köln); Graf Albert Die Tote Stadt (ABAO Bilboa), Don Ottavio Don Giovanni, and Ferrando Così fan tutte (Ministry of Operatic Affairs); and Gernando L’isola disabitata (Nederlandse Reisopera), and Balthasar Zorn Die Meistersinger von Nürnburg (Oper Kiel).

On the concert platform Peter has performed St. Matthew Passion with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra; H.W. Henze’s Kammermusik 1958 with the NDR Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg, which was shortlisted for The Guardian’s Best Classical Recording 2016; Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra; Vigilia by Rautavaara with the Netherlands Radio Choir; Liberto L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms; and Strozzi Caterina Cornaro at the Concertgebouw. He performed solo recitals at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam and De Doelen, Rotterdam, and has also recorded multiple CD’s with the Belgian label Phaedra.

Peter has worked with many leading international conductors and directors including Sir Mark Elder, Sir Andrew Davis, Sir David McVicar, Emmanuel Haïm, Katie Mitchell, Laurence Cummings, Jonathan Kent, Robert Carsen, Jonathan Cohen, David Parry, Vladimir Jurowski, and Edo de Waart.

Recent and future engagements include his Scottish Opera company and role debut as Alfredo La Traviata; Alfredo La Traviata in his company debut for Longborough Festival Opera; the Novice Billy Budd for the Bolshoi, Russia; tenor soloist The Diary of One Who Disappeared with Opera Transparant/Opera Vlaanderen; tenor soloist in Carl Orff’s Catulli Carmina with the Warsaw Philharmonic; and recitals in Belgium and Holland.
