Dublin-born soprano Máire Flavin graduated with joint honours in Psychology and Music from Queen’s University, Belfast, before continuing her vocal studies at Royal Irish Academy of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Opera Course, and the National Opera Studio, London.

Her operatic engagements have included Contessa d’Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro (Salzburger Landestheater; Opera North; Irish National Opera); Bianca in the World Premiere of La Cucina (Wexford Festival Opera); Anna Sørensen in the British Premiere of Kevin Puts’ Silent Night, Fiordiligi Cosi fan tutte, Hanna Glawari The Merry Widow (Opera North); Mimi La bohème (Cork International Opera Series, Opera Theatre Company; Iford Arts Festival); Hannah in the World Premiere of The Second Violinist (Irish National Opera & Wide Open Opera); Donna Anna Don Giovanni (Opera Theatre Company); Musetta La bohème (Lyric Opera Ireland); Zweite Dame Die Zauberflöte (Welsh National Opera); Operatic Highlights Tour (Scottish Opera); the title role Agrippina (Northern Ireland Opera & Opera Collective Ireland); Violetta La traviata (Haddo House Opera); Emmy Perth Der Vampyr (Cork International Festival); and Dido Dido and Aeneas (Théâtre des Champs Elysées & Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing).

On the concert platform she has performed Mahler’s 2nd Symphony, Berlioz Les Nuits d’été, and Viennese Gala Concerts (RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra); Mahler’s 8th Symphony (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra/Royal Albert Hall); Hamilton Harty’s Children of Lir and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella (RTÉ Concert Orchestra); Mozart Requiem (Orchestra of Welsh National Opera; RTÉ Concert Orchestra; RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra); New Year’s Day Opera Gala with Atalla Ayan (RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra); Once upon a Dream: Celebrating Disney (RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra); and Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony (Deutsche Philharmonie) with conductors such as Mark Wigglesworth, Nathalie Stutzmann, Lothar Koenig, Jac van Steen, Alan Buribayev, John Wilson, Rumon Gamba, Jonathan Cohen, Jean-Claude Malgoire and Christoph Poppen. An avid recitalist, she reached the song prize final at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, and has appeared in recital with Simon Lepper, Gary Matthewman, and Nico de Villiers internationally.

Future engagements see Ms. Flavin make several important roles debuts including the title role in a new production of Alcina and Violetta La Traviata (Opera North); Chrysothemis in a new production of Elektra, and Mathilde in Rossini's Guillaume Tell (Irish National Opera); Elena in a new production of La donna del lago (Buxton International Festival); and Nella and the covers of Suor Angelica and Giorgetta in a new Sir David McVicar production of Il Trittico (Scottish Opera); she also performs in Viennese Whirl with the Orchestra of Opera North at Leeds and Huddersfield Town Halls.
