Kang’s recent operatic highlights include Marcello La bohéme (Metropolitan Opera); Germont La traviata (Opera Theatre of St. Louis; Florida Grand Opera; North Carolina Opera; Opera Maine); Sharpless Madama Butterfly (Wolf Trap Opera); Chou En-lai Nixon in China (Los Angeles Philharmonic under John Adams); Manfredo L'amore dei Tre Re (New York City Opera); title role Eugene Onegin (North Carolina Opera); Figaro Il Barbiere di seviglia (Arizona Opera; Fort Worth Opera); Nourabad Les Pêcheurs de Perles and Dandini La Cenerentola (Seattle Opera); Ping Turandot and Captain Gardiner in Jake Heggie’s Moby Dick (San Francisco Opera); Papageno Die Zauberflöte (Utah Opera); Corrado Maria de Rudenz and Cim-Fen L'oracolo (Wexford Festival Opera); he also performed in the World Premiere of Huang Ruo's opera Paradise Interrupted at the Spoleto Festival, the Lincoln Center Festival, and in Singapore.
Kang is an alumnus of the Merola Programme at San Francisco Opera, where he was also an Adler Fellow, with a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a bachelor’s degree from Yon-sei University.
Future engagements see him perform Germont Pere La Traviata (Seattle Opera); return to the Metropolitan Opera, New York; and sing Handel’s Messiah in Seoul.
