Hannah Pedley | Habanera | Carmen | Opera Holland Park, London

Pedley’s international debut came at Wexford Festival Opera performing the roles of Maddalena and Delia in Rossini’s Viaggio a Reims, returning the following year for Mélantho in Faure’s Pénélope. She has since gone on to perform a broad variety of roles with numerous companies including Carmen and Mercérdès Carmen, Olga Eugene Onegin, Cherubino Le nozze di Figaro, Lola Cavalleria Rusticana, and Il Musico Manon Lescaut, (Opera Holland Park); Ottavia in Monteverdi’s Coronation of Poppea and Medea in Cavalli’s Jason (English Touring Opera); Romeo I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Grange Park Opera); Mastrilla La Perichole and Nanette Der Wildschutz (Buxton Festival Opera); Dritte Dame Die Zauberflöte (Royal Opera House insight evening); the title role Carmen (Linbury Studio, Royal Opera House & National Concert Hall, Dublin). Subsequent roles include Orlofsky Die Fledermaus, Smeton Anna Bolena, Nancy Albert Herring, and Hansel Hansel & Gretel.

With a keen interest in contemporary music, Hannah has worked closely with the dynamic Second Movement Opera where she has performed roles including Dinah Trouble in Tahiti, Madam Flora The Medium, Ruth The Impressario, Matka The Knife's Tears, Marfa Rothschild's Violin, Sally A Hand of Bridge, and the mezzo soloist in the world première of Fade by Stefan Weisman. Other recent highlights include Blossom cover Anna Nicole (Royal Opera House); the Duck and Policeman Wind in the Willows, Bridget Moon on a Stick, Helga Twitterdammerung, and various roles in several new commissions for Exposure (ROH Linbury Theatre); Princess Death Cocteau in the Underworld (ROH Linbury Theatre & Brighton Festival); The Witch by Andrew M Wilson (Tavistick Festival); BB McKing in Hollow Hill by Ian McQueen (Buxton Festival); Phoebe in Jools Scott’s Demon Lover (Grimeborn Festival); and Rita the Rat in the European première of Tobias Picker’s Fantastic Mr Fox (Opera Holland Park).

On the concert platform highlights include Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and 9th Symphony (CBSO/Symphony Hall; Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra); Handel Messiah (CBSO; Manchester Camerata); Les Agremens (Brussels; Namur); Mozart Masses (the Sixteen); Britten's Abraham and Isaac and Debussy’s Chansons de Bilitis (Buxton Festival); Olga Eugene Onegin (I Maestri/St John’s Smith Square); Fricka Das Rhinegold (Northern Wagner Orchestra); Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at (The Lighthouse, Poole); Opera Galas in Italy, Russia, and South America; and recitals for Wexford Festival Opera, and Buxton Festival. Mozart Requiem (Boston Handel & Haydn Society); St. Matthew Passion (the Sixteen); Great Operatic Queens of History (Belfast Opera House).
